Guest Post: Summer Essentials

Hi everyone! So excited to be sharing on Carisa's lovely blog today!

I'm Jayda, and you can find me over at Sing Out Your Song. My blog is a collection of all the things I love; recipes, crafts, stories of my lovely life as a wife and dog owner. I also really enjoy blogging about fashion. I LOVE clothes, shoes, and accessories, whether I'm dressing up, or grunging down. Today, I'm going to tell you about some of my fashion essentials for summer, with a little assistance from Polyvore. Do you guys love polyvore as much as I do?! It's one of my favorites, for sure! Here are my top 10 summer fashion essentials!

1) Maxi Skirt: I used to be anti-maxi skirt. You can read all about it in this post. Now I LOVE them, and they're definitely a summer essential. They can be dressed up or down, and either way, it feels like you're wearing comfy sweats. Score!
(Skirt: Macy's)

2) Cargo Capris: Same deal as the skirt for dress-up-and-down-abilility, also really light and comfy, which is a must for me in the summer.
(Capris: Ralph Lauren; I don't own these, but I own similar and cheaper ones from RW and Co)

3) Casual Tank: I like shirts that don't cling when it's hot out. I also like cute tanks that can go with almost anything. This is both.
(Tank: Target)

4) Denim Shorts: For obvious reasons. Match-ability. Comfort-ability. Off-duty-ability. (are you getting the idea that I really like to add "ability" onto the ends of random words to sound more knowledgeable? )  (Shorts: RW and Co)

5) Sneakers: I really like the look of sneakers with shorts or capris. It's cute, casual, and comfortable. Also good for camping or really long shopping expeditions. More on this in #8.
(Sneakers: Vans)

6) A Versatile Summer Dress: In case it isn't obvious yet, I love anything that can do double duty. This dress is cute as a day-time outfit with flat sandals, but add a cute pair of wedges, and it's date night appropriate.
(Dress: Target)

7) Fancy Schmancy Tank: It can dress up denim sorts, or look cute with a pencil skirt and heels. And this yellow one goes nicely with a tan.
(Tank: Target)

8) Low Rise Socks: I like wearing sneakers and flats even when it's hot outside (see #5). Summer sock options? Not so great. I don't like socks sticking out of my shoes, but the avoid-removing-shoes-for-fear- of-scaring-everyone-away alternative is even worse. I wanted better for myself, and I'm sure you do to.These socks are it. Sneakers, minus the sweaty feet. Sorry for the gross imagery. But seriously, give them a try!
(Socks: Payless)

9) Button Down Shirt: It's a good alternative to a heavy sweater at night, and it makes a cute swim suit cover during the day.
(Shirt: American Eagle?)

10) Flat sandals: Cute, and easy to walk in. I love these brown ones from Target for a dressier look, but my  sanuk flip flops are my casual go- to. They're made from yoga mats, and seriously SO comfy!
(Sandals: Target)

It was hard to choose just ten, but if I had to, these would be the ones! Do you have any fashion essentials that you just can't live without in the summer?

Thanks again to Carisa and all of you for having me today, it's been a blast! Stop by my blog and say hi, I'd love to hear from you!

One, Two, Three, Four I Just Got a Pair More!

Ok I don't want to be cocky but I am rollin over my post tittle, sadly its probably the most creative one yet!

So my brain has been running a mile a minuet lately! With the house buying I have so many ideas and I am trying to keep track of them all! I also got like a million things in the mail in the past two weeks and I need to post on some of them, I am trying to keep up! So I apologize for a lil of my crazy in the next weeks haha. At least I have tons of bloggin ideas huh?!

Anyways ... it happened again...

I got another pair of glasses ;)

If you haven't noticed in my pictures I wear a new pair everyday!

Below is a recap of my current 6 if you haven't seen them all.

So Firmoo.com contacted me and asked me to review a pair of glasses and I was eyeing a new pair of tortise glasses so I said yes! Check them out!

Now I am mostly partial to Zenni Optical because that was my first encounter with online glasses shopping but Firmoo is great competition with a different selection!

The glasses fit me perfectly, not to loose or too tight! They also sent a mini screwdriver to adjust them just in case, which I love because its always needed!

The ordering is super easy and the customer service is great. The prices range from $8.00 - $70.00.

My favorite part of their selection is that if you find frames you like, like the shape, you can actually get them in a few different colors! (don't tell the hubs but ill probably order a blue pair in the same shape haha)

Another great feature is that Firmoo has a “Free for New Buyer” program! Below is a little blurb about the site.

Firmoo, the most popular online optical store, provides a large quantity of high-quality and fashionable eyewear at the most affordable prices. With years of experience, Firmoo has gained a solid reputation and trust within 470,000 fans on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/FirmooGlasses). Firmoo has launched a Free for New Buyer program for the first-time buyers. The goal of this program is to make new buyers to experience Firmoo’s quality products & good service as well as to help the people with low income to correct their vision problems. Plus, it’s easy to order and the delivery is pretty fast! Want to have a try? Just go to http://www.firmoo.com/free-glasses.html and get your FREE eyewear!

Seriously guys, go to the site and cash in on a free pair of specs!!

Want the pair I got? You can get them here!

Need some help on deciding, check out my favs below :)

Happy Shopping!!

Have any extra questions about how it works feel free to contact me, shoot me a tweet or email :)

Sweet as Honey: Getting to Grips with Waxing

When it comes to hair removal there are many different approaches, from depilation creams and shaving to the art of threading and of course waxing. Which approach to use is a distinctly personal choice and will often depend on the area of the body to be treated, skin type and thickness of the hair.

Wax away

For many women, waxing is the quickest and easiest method of removing hair, providing a semi-permanent result that can last between one and two weeks. Waxing can apply to many different parts of the body, but is most often used to remove hair growth from the legs, the bikini line area and the eyebrows.

One of the main reasons waxing has become so popular is that it has the ability to adapt to different areas of the body; for instance, a hard wax that dries and hardens on the skin is often applied to sensitive parts of the body so that the beautician doesn't need to use strips of fabric to remove the wax.

As waxing methods become more numerous, the number of available waxes is rising in tandem. Customers can now order from a range of wax treatments, some of which contain tea tree oil, which is ideal for people with sensitive skin. Other waxes contain extra moisturising ingredients or delicate scents.

Wax with honey

As noted above, there are plenty of options available to beauty-conscious customers. However, for a more natural approach to waxing and especially to prevent dry skin after hair removal, many experts recommend honey wax. This wax can be prepared and used at home with a mixture of 1tbs of sugar, 3tbs of honey and around 4tbs of water. This mixture should be boiled until all of the sugar melts into a brown thick liquid.

This liquid can then be poured very carefully into a foil-lined bowl and left for ten minutes before use. During this time, prepare your own waxing strips out of wax paper, ensuring that you leave these beside you. Remember that using honey as a waxing agent requires the skin to be dry and free from any oils or lotions, so prepare the skin carefully and always be extra careful when handling the hot honey.

Apply the mixture to the chosen area and put a wax strip over the top. Keep it there for up to ten minutes. After this time take a slow deep breath and pull the strip away from the skin. Repeat this process until the hair is removed and wash the area, first with warm water, then with cold.

Although this process is simple and cost effective and though honey is an easy ingredient to get hold of it's wise to remember that the honey must be heated to just the right temperature. Too cold and the waxing process won't work, too hot and the skin will be badly burnt. To really enjoy the benefits of this natural approach to waxing it's often best to go to a beauty salon first and learn how it's done by the experts.

Bulletin Board Revamp

Sorry for the brief absence! 4th of July weekend got away from me.

We spent the entire weekend trying to find a way to stay cool. It was insane, biggest heat wave in 10 years!

Thankfully our neighbors lent us an air conditioner so I can function and write more posts ;)

So I am offering you a Monday Tutorial!

Bulletin Board Revamp!

I have had this bulletain board just sitting in a corner of our apartment for about a year. We used to use it but it wasn't very attractive.

So I decided to revamp it as a gift for my sister who was moving into her first house with friends.

Supplies:
Paint
Paint Brush
Bulletin Board
Fabric
Glue Gun
Sand Paper

Directions:

1. Sand the surface of the board. I learned this the hard way, if there is a shine the paint won't stick.

2. Tape off white board so you don't get paint on it.

3. Prime and Paint. I put on white paint first so the blue showed up. It took a few coats but since it was craft paint it dried fast.

4. Cut the fabric to the correct size. I used an exacto knife to make the marks where I needed to cut.

5. Use something to force the fabric under the edges. Make sure its stressed well without wrinkles.

6. Hot Glue any crevices and corners so the fabric stays in place.

I loved the finish product. I kinda wish I kept it for myself :)

Look out for a cheap bulletin board at your local thrift store, it's easy to make look brand new!

How was your weekend? I hope you stayed cool!
