Dreaming of a New Home

It is another pinteresting Wednesday! I thought I would mix it up and do a themed Wednesday. I have been dreaming of a home lately. Pinning a lot of home decor items and dreaming of what I would do with a bigger living room :) I know some of you apartment dwellers probably feel the same way!

Linking up again :)

If you can't tell by my below pins, we love hardwood floors and the color blue, green, and red :)

1. Loving this living room esq room. It looks like it would be a cozy sunroom (although I think it's a nursery).

2. I am in love with those pillows and side tables, and the artwork is so us :)

3. How amazingly comfy and open does this living room look? I am so in love!

4. This kitchen and pantry is amazing! I love the sliding doors and the chalkboard paint. I may have to add this to my future kitchen for sure!

5. Not sure how I feel about the wall plates, but the rug in the living room and the light is so cool!

6. I am in love with the grey paint! And that print is so cool, you know how I feel about bunnies ;)

7. When I have kids, their room is going to be like this. I am so in love with the prints and the bright colors!!

8. This art and make shift book shelves are so cool! They are very anthro. Not sure I could actually stand the clutter but it does look very fun.

9. We have wood framed doors in our apartment, and when we buy a house we are hopping for an older home which hopefully will have wood framed doors. If we do I would love to paint an entry way this way, it looks so amazing!

Same Colored Outfits

Do you guys ever wear the same thing week after week?

As I was looking through outfit pictures I have taken, I realized I have a favorite color combination, black and army green. I own a green blouse, jacket, and 2 sweaters! They just happen to be some of my favorite things in my closet, but it is funny that I always pair them with black jeans!

Sweater:Old, Jeans:Joes
Shirt:Gap, Jeans:Joes, Shoes:Moda, Purse:Juicy
I was looking through some old pictures and I found this one that my wonderful hubs took on vacation, looking good, super action shot!

Jacket: H&M, Jeans:Joes
Sweater: Kenzie Girl, Jeans:Joes

I know this is a great color combo, but I am getting sick of wearing basically the same outfit everyday, thoughts on how I can mix it up?

Art Show and Color Blocking!

This past weekend I had a chance to got to an awesome art show. There is a contemporary art museum in our city and they put on alot of great art shows. They have a huge art show once a year called live coverage. Artists come from all over, some local some not, and they work on their art in front of you. They each auction off a piece that they work on during the night!

One of the rooms full of Art
I wanted the perfect dress for the fun art show so I went shopping! I found a color blocked dress at Charlotte Russe that I was in love with. I paired it with my red glasses, red earnings, and a thrifted red clutch!

There were 5 sections of art that each had a bidding time limit. In the middle there was a "Live Auction" where they had people bidding on some of the pieces. I took a video of the auctioner, it is so fun!

video

We had fun giant lips as our bidding cards! Hen loved how many times I asked to take his picture lol

We also got lucky and won a bid for a piece of artwork we loved! It is a little quirky but it is similar to the art Hen does so it fits with the pieces we already have up!

It says "Nostalgia is bullshit" not sure what it means lol
The night was so fun! I also made the news paper, sort of, the online version :) Check out the pic!

Hope the rest of you had a great weekend!

Valentines Day!!

Ok so this post is a little delayed, especially since I celebrated Vday last week sunday!

but.....

I hope you all had a great Valentines Day!

The hubs and I got to celebrate our valentines day on Sunday since he had to work on V-day. Last week he won us tickets to see Rusted Root and The Crane Wives on Sunday. It was so fun! We ate an early dinner and then went to the show!

Some awesome music for your ears

The Crane Wives are a local Michigan band. I love their music it is sooo good!!
We didn't know who Rusted Root was really, but the tickets were free and they put on a great show!

Now on to Valentines Day Recipe!!

I made me and the hubs favorite dish for our Valentines Day. I wrote about it on the Find Some Love Fest post from a few weeks ago {here} Flank Steak with Tomatoes, Red Onions and Balsamic Vinegar.

Here is the recipe which I found {here}.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb flank steak, fat trimmed
  • kosher salt and fresh pepper
  • garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic
  • 1/3 cup red onion, chopped
  • 3-4 tomatoes, chopped (about 3 1/2 cups)
  • 1 tbsp fresh herbs such as oregano, basil or parsley

Directions {adapted}

Pierce steak all over with a fork. Season generously with salt, pepper and garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce set aside about 10 minutes at room temperature. (I put mine in a gallon zip lock and massaged the spices into the steak.)

In a large bowl, combine onions, olive oil, balsamic, salt and pepper. Let onions sit a few minutes with the salt and balsamic to mellow a bit. Combine with tomatoes and fresh herbs and adjust seasoning if needed.

Heat grill or broiler on high heat. Cook steak about 7 minutes on each side for medium rare or longer to taste. Remove from grill and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes before slicing. You can also cook the steak on the stovetop. Heat oil in a frying pan until hot, cook the steak for 5 minuets on each side, let sit for 5 minuets before serving.

Slice steak think on the diagonal; top with tomatoes and serve.

(Helpful tip: light a candle when you are cutting an onion it helps you keep from crying)

I served ours with a boiled artichoke! I love artichokes, my favorite vegetable ever! If you have never had some don't be scared to try it. All I do is boil water and put the whole artichoke in and boil it for about 20 minuets or until tender. You can serve it with melted garlic butter or with a garlic aioli.

The meal was fab, and so was the night!! I hope you all had a great valentines filled week last week :)

Themed Birthday Gifts

I want to share with you this awesome gift idea that my sister came up with for my cousin! Themed gifts has kind of become a tradition in my family. Useful gifts that are reminiscent of the past or helpful for the future! Some examples: Before I went to college I got a box full of snacks and supplies needed for school. When my brother turned 16 he got supplies for his car and a cd with songs that he used to listen to in the car when he was a baby.

So for my cousin my sister and I got her a Spice Girls themed gift! When we were little we used to lip synch and make music videos to Spice Girls songs. I was always Ginger, my sister was Baby, and my cousin was Sporty! I wish I had pictures it was so funny!!

So we took each Spice Girl and based part of our gift off of it. Below are pictures and descriptions of what we came up with :) (sorry about the pictures but my sis took them on her phone while she was wrapping them).

Check out the total stash!

Ginger Spice
For ginger we got her the spice ginger (good for Chinese food) and ginger tea she loves tea!

Sporty Spice
Target had some awesome mini exercise books and mini weights. My cousin has to stay "sporty"

Baby Spice
My cousin had a bunch of kitchen items on her birthday list so we got her a mini (or baby) cutting board and a mini colander.

Posh Spice
Posh Spice was so hard. We wanted to get her the movie Bend it like Becham but we couldn't find it anywhere! So instead we got her some black nail polish and a black necklace!

Scary Spice
The only thing I could think of for scary spice was leapord print! We got her some leapord print hair clips, nothing too flashy.

My favorite part about this gift is the wrapping and the card. My sister did such a great job!!

What do you think? I was pretty blown away by the idea, and we had so much fun picking things to match the spice girls!

Ill leave you with this....
