Art Show and Color Blocking!

This past weekend I had a chance to got to an awesome art show. There is a contemporary art museum in our city and they put on alot of great art shows. They have a huge art show once a year called live coverage. Artists come from all over, some local some not, and they work on their art in front of you. They each auction off a piece that they work on during the night!

One of the rooms full of Art
I wanted the perfect dress for the fun art show so I went shopping! I found a color blocked dress at Charlotte Russe that I was in love with. I paired it with my red glasses, red earnings, and a thrifted red clutch!

There were 5 sections of art that each had a bidding time limit. In the middle there was a "Live Auction" where they had people bidding on some of the pieces. I took a video of the auctioner, it is so fun!

video

We had fun giant lips as our bidding cards! Hen loved how many times I asked to take his picture lol

We also got lucky and won a bid for a piece of artwork we loved! It is a little quirky but it is similar to the art Hen does so it fits with the pieces we already have up!

It says "Nostalgia is bullshit" not sure what it means lol
The night was so fun! I also made the news paper, sort of, the online version :) Check out the pic!

Hope the rest of you had a great weekend!

Valentines Day!!

Ok so this post is a little delayed, especially since I celebrated Vday last week sunday!

but.....

I hope you all had a great Valentines Day!

The hubs and I got to celebrate our valentines day on Sunday since he had to work on V-day. Last week he won us tickets to see Rusted Root and The Crane Wives on Sunday. It was so fun! We ate an early dinner and then went to the show!

Some awesome music for your ears

The Crane Wives are a local Michigan band. I love their music it is sooo good!!
We didn't know who Rusted Root was really, but the tickets were free and they put on a great show!

Now on to Valentines Day Recipe!!

I made me and the hubs favorite dish for our Valentines Day. I wrote about it on the Find Some Love Fest post from a few weeks ago {here} Flank Steak with Tomatoes, Red Onions and Balsamic Vinegar.

Here is the recipe which I found {here}.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb flank steak, fat trimmed
  • kosher salt and fresh pepper
  • garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic
  • 1/3 cup red onion, chopped
  • 3-4 tomatoes, chopped (about 3 1/2 cups)
  • 1 tbsp fresh herbs such as oregano, basil or parsley

Directions {adapted}

Pierce steak all over with a fork. Season generously with salt, pepper and garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce set aside about 10 minutes at room temperature. (I put mine in a gallon zip lock and massaged the spices into the steak.)

In a large bowl, combine onions, olive oil, balsamic, salt and pepper. Let onions sit a few minutes with the salt and balsamic to mellow a bit. Combine with tomatoes and fresh herbs and adjust seasoning if needed.

Heat grill or broiler on high heat. Cook steak about 7 minutes on each side for medium rare or longer to taste. Remove from grill and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes before slicing. You can also cook the steak on the stovetop. Heat oil in a frying pan until hot, cook the steak for 5 minuets on each side, let sit for 5 minuets before serving.

Slice steak think on the diagonal; top with tomatoes and serve.

(Helpful tip: light a candle when you are cutting an onion it helps you keep from crying)

I served ours with a boiled artichoke! I love artichokes, my favorite vegetable ever! If you have never had some don't be scared to try it. All I do is boil water and put the whole artichoke in and boil it for about 20 minuets or until tender. You can serve it with melted garlic butter or with a garlic aioli.

The meal was fab, and so was the night!! I hope you all had a great valentines filled week last week :)

Themed Birthday Gifts

I want to share with you this awesome gift idea that my sister came up with for my cousin! Themed gifts has kind of become a tradition in my family. Useful gifts that are reminiscent of the past or helpful for the future! Some examples: Before I went to college I got a box full of snacks and supplies needed for school. When my brother turned 16 he got supplies for his car and a cd with songs that he used to listen to in the car when he was a baby.

So for my cousin my sister and I got her a Spice Girls themed gift! When we were little we used to lip synch and make music videos to Spice Girls songs. I was always Ginger, my sister was Baby, and my cousin was Sporty! I wish I had pictures it was so funny!!

So we took each Spice Girl and based part of our gift off of it. Below are pictures and descriptions of what we came up with :) (sorry about the pictures but my sis took them on her phone while she was wrapping them).

Check out the total stash!

Ginger Spice
For ginger we got her the spice ginger (good for Chinese food) and ginger tea she loves tea!

Sporty Spice
Target had some awesome mini exercise books and mini weights. My cousin has to stay "sporty"

Baby Spice
My cousin had a bunch of kitchen items on her birthday list so we got her a mini (or baby) cutting board and a mini colander.

Posh Spice
Posh Spice was so hard. We wanted to get her the movie Bend it like Becham but we couldn't find it anywhere! So instead we got her some black nail polish and a black necklace!

Scary Spice
The only thing I could think of for scary spice was leapord print! We got her some leapord print hair clips, nothing too flashy.

My favorite part about this gift is the wrapping and the card. My sister did such a great job!!

What do you think? I was pretty blown away by the idea, and we had so much fun picking things to match the spice girls!

Ill leave you with this....

Pink and Red Color-blocking!

Happy Valentines Day!!

Today I am linking up with Everybody Everywear to show you a pink and red color blocked outfit!

Pink + Red | Everybody, Everywear

This outfit was a little hard for me. Pink and Red is a fun combo but it is hard to do it right. I don't have as much pink and red in my closet as I thought I did. I wish I had a sweet pair of red skinnys, would have made this task easier! Check out what I threw together below. All I had was a red blazer so I apologize for a repeat!
Blazer:Nordstroms Rack, Shirt:Gift
Jeans:Joes
I have actually been contemplating pairing this shirt with the red blazer for awhile now. The flowers are pink and white so I thought it could be fun! I really like it what do you think?

Pink Shirt:Old Navy, Red Blazer:Nordstroms Rack
Necklace:Thrifted, Jeans:Joes
This outfit is definitely bold. I like it but I think it is too bold for the office. Maybe out with friends though?

Let me know if any of you have tried the look and how you feel about it!!

I hope you guys have an amazing valentines day!! Me and the Hubs celebrated valentines day on Sunday so I will have a post tomorrow about what we ate :)

Crockpot Spaghetti

So I made crockpot spaghetti the other night for dinner. It was delicious! It sounds soooo disgusting, and honestly doesn't look that great, but it is definitely a great dinner. The only thing to be aware of for this crockpot recipe is that it actually doesn't save you time, haha so whats the point right? The flavor and the crunch that you get from making the spaghetti in the crockpot is unbeatable!

The original recipe is from Reservations Not Required. Below is the recipe in full!! Enjoy!

Ingredients

Texas Toast

1/2 pound Ground Beef

1 Jar Spaghetti Sauce

1/4 Cup Butter

1 can Evaporated Milk

1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese

8 ounces Spaghetti

3 cups Cheddar Cheese

Directions
Cook ground round and onion in large skillet, stirring until beef crumbles and is no longer pink; drain meat, and return to skillet. Stir pasta sauce into beef mixture.

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook 1 minute, whisking constantly. Gradually whisk in milk; cook over medium heat, whisking constantly 8 minutes or until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat, and stir in 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and pepper.

Spoon one-third of meat mixture into lightly greased 5 quart slow cooker. Spread half of broken spaghetti over meat, pour half of white sauce over noodles, and sprinkle with 1 cup Cheddar cheese. Repeat layers once. Spread remaining meat mixture over cheese. Top with remaining 1 cup Cheddar cheese.

Cover and cook on Low 4 hours. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with Parmesan cheese. Makes 6-8 servings.

Let me know if you make it and how it was :) Happy Monday ha!
