Relaxing

Hey all. I'm taking a day off my blogging excitement to relax with with friends and family. We have a busy busy week so I am trying to spend time with the hubs when I can. I have some really great posts coming up though. Stay tuned lol

I realized I published this last night before I was done opps...

So this week is my sisters birthday so we have a lot of party's, plus my bestie's birthday is Saturday, plus H has like 3 work events this week!!! So my bloggin time is limited!

I hoping that I will have a new post tomorrow! I also am going to try and convince the hubs to get a tripod for our camera so that I can keep up with the pictures and I don't always have to  wait for him lol

How do you guys balance personal life with blog life?

Since there isn't an exciting post today, make sure to check out my wine tasting post from yesterday!! Wine Tasting Post

Wine Tasting

When my husband and I fist got married we lived in a dinky one bedroom apartment. It was our favorite place, looking back we can’t even fathom how we ate dinner every night for a year on the couch!! We are definitely sit down and eat over good conversation type people. So when we moved to a bigger apartment and had a huge dinning room with a bar (awesome, I know) we decided we needed to come up with a great “party” night to have our friends over and host in our dinning room! That is when I came up with the idea of having a wine tasting party. I told h-dawg and he loved the idea and it took off, we have one every month with different friends and I believe we are on to party #10!

I want to share with you how we laid out our party. I did a lot of research on how was the best way to throw a wine tasting party. It was actually really fun and I learned a lot!

The Basics

1. You need to select a region or type of wine to let all your guests know what to bring. We started with a free for all, everyone just had to bring a bottle under $10 but then you get too many different flavors and it is harder to rate them.

Our first party was a free-for-all
2. You need to decide if you want to do a blind tasting or not. We always “brown bag” the bottles of wine so it is a surprise what kind you are drinking, then we can vote on our favorites. This adds another fun element to the tasting.

3. You need some sort of guide for you guests to follow. I found a tasting guide (here) but there are a bunch to choose from or you could mix yours up to make your own!!
4. Last you should decide if you want to give out a prize. We always buy an extra bottle of wine for the person whose bottle ranks the highest! You never really know what your buying or if others will like it so it is just a fun lucky man incentive!

The people we invite now have been so many times I don’t remake my guides because I really am to lazy, but if you were gonna make a sweet party a guide is a must!

There are supposbly some “rules” to wine tasting, it is fun to print off a guide or read it to your guests. Some of the things really work!!

The tasting guide is a lot of fun. It helps spark conversation as well! Our first tasting guide came from Epicurous. They have a great PDF that you can download or type up yourself! They also have a few tips that are fun to follow. Although we did not pair our wine with food it is still interesting to read those tips too! Check out the guide <Check It> Above (under #3) is a picture of our first wine guides that I made, they were really fun but took a lot of work! Below you can see a picture of what we resort to now haha pure laziness!

I also spent a lot of time writing up definitions on note cards for more conversation starters. The definitions I got from Basic Wine Knowledge. I basically picked which ones I thought were fun. Below a picture of my "wine knowledge cards"

Last we followed a "wine tasting guide" also from epicurious. There are supposedly 9 steps to tasting wine!
1. Introduce the Wine
2. Sample
3. Look
4. Smell
5. Sip
6. Swallow
7. Evaluate
8. More Sampling
9. Discuss
Some of the descriptions to these steps I found elsewhere were so funny! It said not to be embarrassed if you make loud noises while tasting, so I was sure to try it ;)

Below are some more fun pictures from our wine tastings! I hope you guys try it out, it introduced me and the hubs to a lot of our now favorite cheap wines!!

Feel free to share the wine tasting tips, or copy my guides, just tell everyone where you got them ;)

PS. Favorite wine thus far is the Flip Flop Chardonnay, if you see it some where you should try it!! Flip Flop brand wines have one 3 of the wine tastings!!

DIY Stud Earings

I am linking up to a few different blogs today to get the word out about the earrings I made my self that saved me a fortune :)

Made in a Day

I have been eying some awesome studs online recently. I don't have many stud earrings. I really love the fun marc jacob's ones or the juicy couture ones but really I didn't want to spend the money. but i figured they would be easy enough to make a pair, I already had stud backs at home I just had to find some items to glue on them.

Below is a quick tutorial on how I whipped up my own pair. I have tons of stud backs left so I am on the lookout for more things to glue to them.

Need
Earring Studs from a craft store
Buttons/trinkets to glue to the studs
Crazy Glue or Super Glue

Directions
It is really as easy as taking the item that you bought and gluing it to the stud! so simple!

Check out the ones that I made and let me know what you think!

Find Some Love Fest!

*welcome new visitors, please excuse the mess I am working on updating my layout. Thanks for stopping by*

Over at one of the blogs I follow I discovered a really awesome link up day and giveaway day! All you had to do was write a post about Valentines day and you could link up to 5 blogs! I am sure you have seen the buttons on other peoples blogs. I am excited to share with you what I have planned for Valentines day with the hubs! Make sure to click the button and check out some other great posts!!

The hubs and I don't usually do special things on valentines day because as long as we have been together we have either been highschoolers or college students, aka no money! Last year he made me an amazing dinner though and cleaned the apartment :)

This year however we are going to decorate the house, have a great meal, and go to a concert!

There is a really great local radio station in our city, they play everything! They also play a lot of local music so you can support the local artists. On February 14 they are throwing their "Jammies Awards" where they award local musican's, kind of like the grammys! We have never been but hey, who can turn up free music??
{source}
I am hoping to also cook me and the hubs favorite meal, just for something special! Below is the recipe. We usually serve our steak with an artichoke and rice....sooooo good!!

{source}

{source}
For dessert I want to make gummy bear vodka shots!! They are sooo cute and I think they would make a really fun date night drink!

{source}
I don't know what to get the hub gift wise yet, we don't really do gifts we just use the day as a night to spend time together and remind eachother how much love we have :) But I am thinking of getting a card like this (or this print itself), it is soooo us!
{source}
For a gift I am thing of putting little notes all around the house about what I love about h-dawg. He did that for me once and it was sooooo sweet. I also think it would totally brighten his day!
{source}
If h-dawg felt so inclined I would love these pajamas for valentines day! I think they are fun, and I really love hello kitty, they also look crazy comfortable. They are at target for $15 I think.

I have also always wanted to decorate for valentines day but I am never ambitious enough! I am really hoping to find time to make a heart garland by valentines day :) Stay tuned I am sure I will have a post about it soon!

Do you guys have valentines plans/ideas? I'd love to hear about them or check out your blogs to see what you are planning!
