Art Prize Grand Rapids

I am off to another night of Artprize tonight with the inlaws. So I thought I would share a little bit about what Artprize is for thos of you that don't know!

Artprize is this huge art "competition" in Grand Rapids, MI. Artists display their pieces through out the city, some outside, some up in office buildings, some churchs, schools ect.

The public has one week to text in votes on their favorite pieces and then the top 20 are announced. Then a few days to weed it down to the top ten! Once they are announced there is 5 days to vote for the best one and they receive $200,000!

There are a lot of other prizes given out as well, but it is cool because anyone 18 and up can enter and you only have to pay like $25 to get entered!

This year there are 1517 entries, 161 venus, all within 3 sq miles! How cool is that?!

Below are a few of cool ones, I haven't seen them all yet its nearly impossible!

Check out the website Here, you can view all of the art!

Also if you want to see something funny check out the blog ArtPrize Worst. They aren't doing it this year, but it just shows you anyone can enter! Which i honestly think makes it more fun :)

Happy tuesday!

Meal Planning, Recpies and Grocery List Tips!

Have you ever heard of the Iphone app called Menu Planner?

You have probably heard me talk about it a few times. Well I think it is the worlds coolest app, especially for planning my weekly grocery list and menu!!

I actually usually dred doing this, but I love cooking, so being prepared is key. The app keeps it handy too because my phone is always with me!

Below are a few pictures of the interface of the app. It lets you import recipes, keep track of whats in your pantry, create grocery lists from recipes, create menus, and calculate your total grocery bill (coolest feature!).

There is one downside, in my opinion, the set up is a little tedius, but once you get recpies imported planning your weekly menu and grocery list takes about 2 mins :) but there is a customer website where you can do most of the work which makes it less tedius

So I thought I would share with you my weekly menu, recpies and a grocery list! I know this is a fashion blog, but we all have to eat right?! haha, if this goes over well Ill try and post one each week! Friday-Foodday!

*Wednesday we have Church programing so I don't have a recpie on there this week.

Casual Saturday

Last Saturday night was bar night!

I haven't been to a bar in a grip! Since we moved we have been so busy and tired, but we did save a bunch of money :)

I wanted to get all dolled up for kicks but we were going to a beer bar so it had to be casual!

I busted out my favorite pair of fall wedges and skinnys, throw on a tee and scarf and I was a happy gal :)

I saw this tee on The Daybook blog and I needed it, it looked so comfortable! It is so cheap and probably the best tee I have ever purchased, I swear I've worn it every other day this week :)

Pattern Mixing: First Attempt

My first attempt at pattern mixing, and I think I am in love!

I had to start small and ease myself into it but seriously, how awesome is this?

This dark shirt is also helping me ease into fall. The weather around here is hot one day cold the next!

How was your weekend?

Mine was filled with house work, a birthday party, a wedding shower and of course a LIONS game ;)

It is getting beautiful here in Michigan, I love September!

Girls Night!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hpnotiq for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
So I was asked by Hpnotiq to review their new Primp & Prep website designed for girls night!
This site has not launched yet but is supposed to a site to go to for your girls night! How many times do you say to your girls "lets check pinterest," or "i can totally find that on Pinterest" when your getting ready? Well this website is supposed to have all of those things at your fingertips!
I am actually really excited to check it out! It will feature things like a predesgined pandora playlist, fun cocktail recipes, beaty tips and celebrity style photos!
Usually when I have girls over we stay in and watch a movie, do our hair and make up, like back in the day! We don't usually go out on the town very often, we are basically "college students" still and the budget is limited, but a girls night in is the best!
I know this isn't quite like my normal posts but i thought itd be fun just to let you know about the site! I love when everything girl related is right at my fingertips ;)
Check out the screen shot, what do you think? Will you check out Hypnotiqs site?
This weekend its totally going to be hair down, music up! ;)

Fall Soup from the Garden!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Did you guys know that a great time to plant is in the fall? I am sure you have realized by my post last week that the hubs and I have been doing some major Fall gardening!

Yesterday the hubs planted some jerusleum artichokes that we are really excited about!

Below is what they looked like before we put them in the ground. And what they should look like when they bloom :)

I have heard a little bit about jerusleum artichokes, and if it has the name artichoke in it it must be good.

We planted some by the front door and some by our lightpost!

So Ive been doing some searching on pinterest and I found this recipe. Next spring we are so making this!

Jeruselum Artichoke Soup

4 pounds Sunchokes aka Jeruselem Artichoke
1 large white onion
4 cloves of garlic
250ml 35% cream
2 litres of chicken stock
salt and white pepper
Fresh thyme
Teaspoon of non salted butter

Fresh chopped chives
Paprika & tomato oil

(1)Peel and quarter the Sunchokes. Sautee them with butter in a large pot for a few minutes, add the diced onion and finely minced garlic.

(2) Cook until they are soft and the flavour is sweated out, add S & P to taste. Add the cream and chicken stock with 8 sprigs of the fresh thyme. Cook for 25-50 minutes on low-med heat depending on gas or electric stove.

(3)Then blend on high in the blender until it becomes a silky texture. with the lip slightly open to prevent it from popping up and potentially burning you with the HOT soup. If needed adjust seasoning. ENJOY.

This is really exciting. I always thought you had to wait till spring to plant things, but you don't! I encourage you to Find beauty in the Fall!  It's not too hot to plant now!!

The key part to planting in the fall is making sure the plants get enough water and "food." Make sure to check out the Miracle-Gro Facebook page and see what they can do for you!

This weekend I am going to go out and grab some Fall plant and feed so that I know our plants will grow fast! I think the liquafeed will be a good choice to nurture the plants we have already planted!

I am also going to check out the Tree Spikes for our cute tree, I wonder if it would help it double in size faster, we need some major shade!

Let me know if you check it out and what you think :) Did any of you plant anything new recently?

Happy Fall Planting!
