Recipe Friday!

I made the best salsa last night I needed to share it!

Most people get a long nice weekend and the best thing to do on weekend nights is to sit on the porch drink in hand eating homemade salsa! Can you think of anything more refreshing? Haha

So I kind of cheat when I make salsa, I buy the spice packets it saves a bit of time!

First thing you should do is cut slits in your tomatoes and pour boiling water on them, this will help you remove the skin. It isn't necessary but I like to do that so the salsa is more saucy and not just big chunks.

I then cut an onion, I prefer the taste and color of red onions. I chop it really small so it's easier to eat. Light a candle when you do this it helps! I swear I "cried" for ten minuets and I literally couldn't open my eyes without searing onion pain lol

I then add garlic, chopped small because garlic is the best thing ever. This isn't needed though.

Then you add the spice packet to taste, don't dump it all in because it is beyond flavorful!!

Then refrigerate for a little while if you can wait ;) so the flavor blends. But it tastes great either way!

Check it out, it made a ton with three tomatoes!! Soooo good!

We devoured a whole bowl yesterday!

Happy weekend!

My Gingham Obsession Continues

I am almost to a combined 100 followers I am soooo excited, thanks to all the recent followers it means so much!

I am planning a few giveaways coming up and I am beyond excited! So look out for those!

I am cracking up right now realizing I am and never will be a model! What's up with all my shots of my backside? Bahah this is what happens when the hubs refuses to take pictures of me :(

I love my Gingham shirt! It is my new best friend, I am so happy I spent the money on it!

Also I totally made my skirt, it only took me a year to finally finish but I did it just in time for summer! I just followed a pencil skirt I had and sewed up both sides and put in elastic...sooo easy!

This is really geeky of me but I just started my tests to get Quickbooks certified yesterday and I am really excited! Have any of you heard of QB or use it at work? If you have any questions I will be a certified trainer in a few weeks! haha sorry for my geekyness but I really am excited!

Southern Food

I want to preface my Pinteresting Wednesday post by saying, Southern Food is No Joke!

I loved all the food we had on our trip!

I am not a big fan of seafood but I ate a lot and loved it soooo much better than Michigan Seafood.

Below are a few recipes to some of my favorite things that we had in NOLA!

1. Black Beans & Rice You wouldn't think this could be good, or I didn't, but really it was amazing! The best combination I have had in a long time!

2. Crawfish: I did not eat these...gross. But my husband loved them so I thought I would share a recipe if any of you actually have access to crawfish I am pretty sure they aren't sold in Michigan, and that's ok by me ;)

3. Poboys: We had a poboy just about everyday and they were soooo good! The best flavor by far is shrimp! A shrimp sandwich is beyond good!

4. Beignets: I am sure most have heard about this breakfast deliciousness! You can get them a couple of places but the best is cafe dumonde! Soooo good!

5. Crab Cakes: We had these one night, and although they were not my favorite at Copelands they did sound so good and you can get them everywhere!!

Are any of my readers from the South? Did I miss an amazing recipe?

We are planning on going back to NOLA in the future, we have been there twice now and it really seems like a second home it is such an inviting city! So if you have restaurant suggestions let me know ;)

Can I just say how amazing this dress is?

It kept me pretty cool in the New Orleans heat! And I got a little color :)

I love the color of the dress, its the perfect pop of color!

And like always my hair is braided...when its hot out that is the best way to wear my hair, cute and cool.

Coolest story ever. We saw Mathew McConahey (sp?)

We were just walking along in the Garden District and we passed the most adorable little boy!

We were all awing over how cute he was, the hubs said really loud "that is one fly little boy!"

Then there is a little girl and we do the same.

Well after we walk by my friend says she thought it was Matthew Mcconahey, well non of us looked up except her.

When we got back we cruised twitter and figured out we walked right past him at Sucre!

Crazy funny that we only noticed the famous man's kids I am sure that made him smile!

Tomorrow I will share more of my trip and hopefully some great southern recipes :)

From the Office to the Dancefloor: How to Ensure Your Look Survives All Day Long!

Hey girls! I have one more guest blogger for ya, the wonderful Leyla!

By day, Leyla works as a freelance writer and executive. By night, she likes to indulge her love of blogging. On this occasion, she is working closely with Salons Direct to collaborate with them on style and beauty issues that affect busy working women. You can find her on Twitter via @DigitalLeyla.

If you were a Girl Guide or Scout you will no doubt have heard the phrase 'be prepared'. And while you may be grown up now, those survival skills you learned all those years ago can still save your skin today, along with your hair and make-up! The emergency ten pence in your survival kit many have been replaced by the emergency touch up but the principle remains the same. Being prepared means you will never go far wrong, whatever your hectic lifestyle throws at you.

As a busy executive, I am faced with preparing for a day in a busy office quickly followed by important events and social networking. When I came to write this guest post, I was inspired by own experiences and decided it was time to address this issue and provide some advice. The 'office-to-out' scenario is a perfect example for those like me who work hard and play hard, so follow the tips below to ensure your transformation from daytime to night-time.

Play It Straight
Whatever your preferred style, your look has to last all day: so keep it simple. Don't go for hair up or spend hours preening in the morning. It only takes a strong gust of wind from The Tube or a sixty-second shower on the walk to work to spell disaster. If your hair is long, straighten it. I have been a huge advocate of straightened hair since my teens and I’m not going to stop now! I always carry a couple of Kirby grips, a comb and a can of strong hairspray. That way I can assess my options at the end of the day. Pinning back a couple of pieces and a bit of backcombing can work wonders and produces a cool but low maintenance style.

Lashings of Preparation
I am just going to come out and say it: I love false lashes. I don’t know what it is about them but I instantly feel extremely glamorous and ready to face any client. If I know I have to go out after work, I apply a subtle set in advance and then add a couple of coats of mascara to lengthen them at the end of the day. If like me, you often have work events to attend, it could be worth investing in a salon visit to get lash extensions professionally added to your own. Word of caution though; assess the type of false lash for the appropriate occasion. Double lashes are not appropriate for a formal dinner with the directors!

Nail it with the Nails
There are three things people are most likely to notice about you: your hair, make-up and hands. Naked nails are never a good look, so ensure your nails are done in advance. If it is a quick, informal event I usually just manicure my nails the night before; if however, the event is more formal, I usually nip to the nail bar if I can to ensure they will stay chip-free for weeks.

Pack a Make-Up Survival Kit
There won't be time to spend smudging eyeliners to achieve smouldering eyes so apply your make up as normal in the morning and bring along a survival kit of beauty supplies. These should include multi-functional items such as pencils that can be used for both lips and eyes and bronzers that can be used for face, arms and chest. A bright-coloured lipstick is also a good way to add some oomph and can dramatically transform a dull daytime look into a suitably glamorous nocturnal look.

Finish off the look with the right attire
This is not the time to be daring with a bandage dress, so stick to something tried and tested. There is a reason the 'little black dress' has survived all these years and it has been my saviour since I started working in this industry. Remember that your outfit has to leave with you in the morning, live under your desk for the day and still be party perfect, so pick one that isn't going to crease easily. For a personal tip, I have been sticking to structured peplum dresses as they are amazingly professional for the office and gorgeously sophisticated in the evening for dinner, drinks and dancing.

Today's women lead busy lives and usually don't have the time to spend on elaborate preparation for an evening out after a hard day at work especially if you work in the city. You can, though, with a little thought and preparation, make the transition quick, easy and flawless.

Are you a female professional working hard and doing it in style? What are your beauty secrets?

Guest Post: Nikole

Hey Everybody! My name is Nikole, and I wanna share with you guys few fingernail tips :)
You don't have to be an artist to do your own nails
AND make them super cute.

Tip 1:
Scribbling looks cute on nails!
For these nails, I just got some white polish on a toothpick and scribbled!
Big drop of white polish?
No problem! I just used the toothpick to the drag nail polish into more interesting designs.

Tip 2:
Clean your nails before applying nail polish.
Even if your nails are free of any previous polish, dab some polish remover on them to remove any residue.
The less residue on your nail,
the longer the polish will stay on!

Tip 3:
Painting your finger or skin is not a big deal!
Removing polish from skin is simple! Just use a Q-tip and some polish remover.
You don't have to spend a ton of time trying to "color in the lines"
mistakes are incredibly fixable!

Tip 4:
Post-its are your best friend.
It is so easy to get straight lines with post-it notes.
For these nails, I just painted them all yellow, stuck the post-it note on, and painted the rest of my nail green with NO worries about the green getting on the yellow. :)

Tip 5:
Add some diversity!
Not every single nail has to be the same!
Painting one nail a little differently can be quite intriguing :)

Tip 6:
Stickers. Seriously, stickers can make your nails look SO good in literally one second.
Just make sure to paint a clear top coat over the sticker so that it stays :)

I love doing my nails. It's so relaxing, fun, and inexpensive!
